JAKARTATODAYNEWS, JAKARTA - Terrible tragedy befell a number of Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD volunteers. They became victims of abuse carried out by 15 TNI members in front of Company B Headquarters Raider Battalion 408/SBH, Jalan Perintis Independen, Boyolali, Central Java, Saturday (30/12/2023).

As a result of the incident which was recorded on video and went viral on social media X or Twitter, one volunteer died and four others suffered serious injuries.

This information gave rise to a wave of emotions of anger and disgust in the community, including from the General Chairperson of Ganjarist Kris Tjantra. He said that the condition of the democratic party ahead of the 2024 elections had been tarnished by this sickening tragedy.

"It is truly shameful that this was done by members of the TNI, representatives of the state institution that is most trusted, respected and proud of the Indonesian people," said Kris in his statement, Sunday (31/12/2023).

At this point, continued Kris, the families of the victims of violence and fellow volunteers certainly felt a deep loss.

"We as Indonesian people, regardless of political support, mourn and hope that this tragedy will be a momentum for positive change in maintaining ethics and democratic norms in Indonesia," he explained.

He also requested that this incident be immediately investigated thoroughly and that the law be enforced against the perpetrators and reveal the intellectual actors behind it.

"In this situation, law enforcement and justice are very important to be enforced without favoritism, in accordance with applicable law. This incident also reminds us of the importance of maintaining conduciveness and order in democracy," he explained.

According to him, the security apparatus should be the front party who can provide a sense of security for the community and maintain the conduciveness of the democratic party so as to produce quality leaders with dignity.

"All parties, especially security forces, are expected to ensure that every citizen can participate in the democratic process without having to feel threatened, let alone experiencing violence," he concluded.
